چکیده

A simplechemical test previouslydescribedfor the determination of total protein and y-globulin was applied to the analysisof spinal fluid specimens (CSF) from nonneurologic and a variety of neurologic disorders. On the basis of the chemical findings, the pathologic specimens analyzed were divided into three groups: (a) nonneurologic and some neurologic conditions with a normal CSF total protein and yglobulinconcentration; (b) demyelinating disorderswith a normal total protein and elevated .y-globulin concentration; and (c) degenerative and infectious with an elevated total protein and y-globulin. A goodcorrelation between chemical findings and clinical observationwas obtained.

A Spinal Fluid Scoring System for Differentiation of Bacterial and Viral Meningitis

To develop such a system, a retrospective study was performed on patients with meningitis admitted at three major pediatric hospitals during a ten-year period. In this study, important cerebrospinal fluid ( CSF) indices were measured and compared in cases of bacterial and viral meningitis. Glucose, protein and white blood cells (WBCs) were analyzed in 609 patients with meningitis and scores wer...

A procedure for the determination of cerebrospinal fluid total protein and gamma globulin in neurologic disorders.

ELEVATION of the y-globulin concentration in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) and other neurologic disorders has been reported (1-3). Expression of the y-globulin values in milligrams per hundred milliliters does not reveal whether this increase is due to a general elevation of total protein or y-globuin alone. Determinations of both y-globulin and total protei...

Diagnostic Value of Measurement Specific Gravity by Refractometric and Dipstick Method in Differentiation between Transudate and Exudate in Pleural and Peritoneal Fluid

Background: Accumulation of pleural and peritoneal fluid is seen in some diseases. In order to diagnose the disease and start the treatment, one of the most important actions will be to differentiate between exudates and transudates. The objective of this study was to determine the diagnostic value of measuring the specific gravity of the fluid through...

Ascitic fluid to serum bilirubin ratio for differentiation of exudates from transudates

Abstract   Background: Regarding the diagnostic errors of the classic criteria including serum ascites   albumin gradient (SAAG), total protein concentration and the adapted Light et al’s criteria   in distinguishing transudate versus exudates, we evaluated the ascitic fluid to serum   bilirubin ratio as a new criteria in this regard. We also evaluated whether the combination of   bilirubin r...
